Gargantia Ep 12
Quiet yet deep emotion.
This has been my experience throughout watching Gargantia.
It’s such a heart-warming story. Yes, I agree there were some chilling scenes, too; for example, finding out Hideazu was formerly human was unspeakably gruesome. I bet the name “Hideazu” came from the English word “hideous.”
I felt time was quietly passing as if I were there at Gargantia when Captain Fairlock passed away. At the moment Rigid finally showed up at the last minute to pour sand over Fairlock , I found myself crying quietly.
In the Episode 12 Ledo said that he didn’t want to hurt his former commander although he wanted to stop him from attacking Gargantia. Commander Kugel and Gargantia both are very important for Ledo. It’s not the matter of who is right and who is wrong. He knows and understands both live based on their own values and beliefs. Isn’t it so much like our world? Ledo argued with Kugel saying that this world on earth is built by people who live here and different from where they lived in the galaxy.
Ledo managed to hold down Striker and open the cockpit. To his and my surprise, Kugel was unconscious, and then Ledo witness Kugel shrink and gone right in front of his eyes. The shockwave traveled quietly but deeply. I feel the death of Kugel reminded us of the truth that we all die at some point even if we don’t kill each other in battles.
I love the scene where Chamber and Ledo are facing each other in a dark warehouse type of place. Ledo was plotting to prevent Kugel and his people from attacking Gargantia, and Chamber asked Ledo as usual for his command. Then Ledo realizes that he never made real decisions of his own. He noticed that he was always making decisions within the Galaxy Allies doctrines and standards. He always made best decisions based upon the values which the Galaxy Allies taught him to be “right.”
It was almost like Ledo was finally coming out of darkness into the light.
We hadn’t seen battle scenes for a while, right!? The battle between Striker and Chamber was so fast and awesome!! Kakkoii!! Kya——!! Pinion and his crew joined to support Ledo! And Lukkage and her crew began going wild!! Lukkage was so cool saying, “Excuse me for being unladylike!” Then the people who left Gargantia join forces under their captain’s command!
But this time it was Melty!!!
She showed her guts, didn’t she!? OMG~! She made me cry! Melty was my least favorite among those three girls in Gargantia because she seemed only interested in men. But now my view has changed. Her spirit shined in this episode! Just imaging flying a glider all night all alone over the pitch-black sea makes me shiver…
Imagine how relieved Melty felt when she saw Gargantia in the morning mist! Although she fell off her glider unconsciously, Amy came to her rescue! Melty’s signals were successfully received by Amy! This scene reminded me of Nausica with Meve!
Speaking of falling, Ledo also fell from Striker but Chamber caught him!! Kya~!
Melty woke up to find her friends relieved faces all around her. This was a great contrast to the Cult group society.
Before taking action Ledo remembered the people of Gargantia in the rain. It showed how Ledo now feels like Gargantia is his home physically and emotionally.
From the first episode Ledo’s feelings have been described so well that it’s easy for viewers to feel how Ledo grew to love Gargantia and its people. I feel the flow of events and how Ledo has changed over the course of series are so natural. The changes came so naturally and quietly, but yet profoundly.
I can’t believe the next episode is the last one. I’m going to miss Gargantina big time!
And that key. This series still has a surprise to the end! I wonder if Gargantia itself transforms itself into a gigantic fighting robot or something. LOL That would be like Macross, hun? XD
Also, if Pinion and Lukkage get married it would be just like Captain Dice and Monsley from “Future Boy: Conan.” Another my all-time favorite anime!
